From 3 to 5 June 2026, at the Headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), represented by Mr. Jean Koutele, together with its specialized energy institutions, namely the Central African Power Pool (PEAC), represented by Messrs. Rigobert Gbazi and Marc Effaga Edzegue, the Central African Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CEREEAC), represented by Dr. Georgette Fumtchum Tamko, and the Central African Regulatory Authority for Electricity (CORREAC), represented by Mr. Samuel Nyobe, participated in the Technical Consultation and Validation Workshop of the Continental Energy Programme for Africa (CEPA), a continental initiative led by the African Union with the support of several partners, notably the European Union.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- consolidate and validate the key deliverables of the CEPA programme, particularly those related to the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM) and the Continental Master Plan (CMP);
- strengthen coordination among African institutions in the areas of energy planning, market integration and energy transition;
- define strategic orientations and priorities for future implementation phases in line with continental objectives.
Through the joint participation of its specialized institutions, ECCAS actively contributed to ensuring that Central Africa’s priorities were reflected in these strategic discussions, particularly with regard to regional integration, the harmonization of regulatory frameworks, and the development of a sustainable and inclusive African energy market.
