The centre supports and executes RE&EE projects which cover one or more ECCAS countries (Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda and São Tomé and Príncipe). The Centre’s work primarily focuses on activities and projects with regional impact or national projects, which demonstrate high potential for scaling-up or regional replication. It ensures activities are focused on rural areas and assists in the development of large scale RE&EE developments, which benefit the region as a whole, covering urban, peri-urban and rural areas. The Centre promotes the following energy technologies/solutions: 

•  The full spectrum of appropriate RE&EE technologies, also including partly RE-based hybrid systems and mini-grids. 

• Small-scale and medium-scale hydro power projects (maximum capacity of 30 MW). 

• Biofuel projects, which have been proven to be sustainable. In this context, CEREEAC considers 2nd generation biofuels as ones that do not compete with food crops for available land and that comply with the following minimum criteria: lifecycle GHG reductions (including direct and indirect emissions), land use change, local added value, ecological and social standards.
